Adventures in Green Bay

Well, Toto – we’re not in New York City anymore.

I have arrived in Green Bay, Wisconsin for Weetacon 2009. What is Weetacon you ask? Honestly, I have no idea and yet here I am. Are you familiar with the online presence, the fabulousness, the je nais se quois-ness that is Weetabix? Formerly of the (now offline) online magazine, “Elastic Waist,” frequent contributor to BFDBlog, as well as her own personal online diary That’s My Bix!, Weetabix is sassy and snarky, smart and serious and it seems from all her projects that she never sleeps. And I wuv her.

A few weeks ago I received a mysterious tweet from my friend Weeetabix: “So very much fun and you can warm yourself by rubbing up against all the hot people! Seriously, you NEED, nay BELONG in Green Bay this March.”

I can tell you this much – when Weetabix calls I answer. If she says that there is going to be a party, then hells yeah I am so there. So I bought a plane ticket from New York to Green Bay. I checked myself into a hotel room. And I have just received this text message from Wendy, “Martinis and tapas. Join us.” Woo Hoo! I love tapas! We are off to a good start.

I know this much, there will be drinking, eating, a sleigh ride, something that Wisconsinites call Booyah, a trivia competition, karaoke, and then in all likelihood more eating and drinking. There shall be Twittered updates from the frozen north so please follow my tweets or visit Twitter Search by entering #Weetacon in the search window.

I will know more today at registration. I didn’t even know that there would be a registration until I had polished off two Beefeater & Tonics and a Kobe beef mini-burger at Hinterland, which has an amazing menu, including delicious tapas. There have been moments where I feel like I have wandered into an alternate universe, one filled with Packers Fans, beer and cheese. In my research I have discovered that Booyah is either an enormous stew meant to feed thousands, or a Pigskin Jig used to win the Bassmaster Classic, possibly with the addition of a YUM Chunk. I guess I’ll know more Friday.

I’ve got my digital camera, a solid internet connection in my hotel room, and you. There will be prizes and I intend to win something. Wish me luck!
