Checking out and flying home
It’s been wonderful here in Green Bay. I’ve had a great time at this weekend extravaganza, these couple of days of frolic and merriment that is hosted by my friend Weetabix every year. I’ve met wonderful new people like Jen, and caught up with old friends like Poundy, and and many other really fun and cool folks.
And now to make sure I haven’t left anything in the hotel room, zip up my suitcase and brave the snowy roads to get to the airport. Folks who were meant to fly home last night found that all flights were canceled so they spend some time at a local casino, spent the night at a different hotel, and the last I heard they had to be back at the airport at 4:00 a.m. to ride a bus to a different airport in order to fly home. Such is the risks we take when we come to Wisconsin in March.
The snow stopped around 1:00 a.m. and there haven’t been any cancellations today so hopefully I’ll have an easier time getting home than my friends. That’ll be all for now. Perhaps more via my Twitter page. I leave you with one last thing: just heard on the tv, “get all of your home maple syrup making needs at ____ hardware.” Goodbye Green Bay! I love you!
You too can blow Wolverine
Must leave hotel and drink buckets of coffee to prepare for Day 2 of Weetacon, my Green Bay, Wisconsin adventure.
But I must share one image before I go:

My everlasting thanks to Jenny for sharing this and she found it via Geekologie.
Run out and buy this incredible blow-up sex toy completely appropriate and fun toy which is way better than Barbie for your kids. They won’t end up in therapy. Really.
Now…where can I get one of those and does it come with a picture of Hugh Jackman?
Adventures in Green Bay cont.
I walked around downtown Green Bay this morning. It’s actually kind of cool. There are hip places to hang out, there is really good local brew in several spots within walking distance, there is a both a bar and a church every two blocks. There is fried cheese in every restaurant, diner, burger joint, and coffee shop. I have not heard one local person say, “doncha know” or “you betcha.”
What we did today at Weetacon 2009:
And now I must rest for we continue the madness that is Weetacon in the morning. Please, if you feel so inclined, visit the Paul’s Pantry website and if you do decide to contribute funds, consider mentioning Weetacon. They will know what that means. It is midnight in the land of Packers, beer and brats and so I bid you goodnight. Pleasant dreams.
Adventures in Green Bay
Well, Toto – we’re not in New York City anymore.
I have arrived in Green Bay, Wisconsin for Weetacon 2009. What is Weetacon you ask? Honestly, I have no idea and yet here I am. Are you familiar with the online presence, the fabulousness, the je nais se quois-ness that is Weetabix? Formerly of the (now offline) online magazine, “Elastic Waist,” frequent contributor to BFDBlog, as well as her own personal online diary That’s My Bix!, Weetabix is sassy and snarky, smart and serious and it seems from all her projects that she never sleeps. And I wuv her.
A few weeks ago I received a mysterious tweet from my friend Weeetabix: “So very much fun and you can warm yourself by rubbing up against all the hot people! Seriously, you NEED, nay BELONG in Green Bay this March.”
I can tell you this much – when Weetabix calls I answer. If she says that there is going to be a party, then hells yeah I am so there. So I bought a plane ticket from New York to Green Bay. I checked myself into a hotel room. And I have just received this text message from Wendy, “Martinis and tapas. Join us.” Woo Hoo! I love tapas! We are off to a good start.
I know this much, there will be drinking, eating, a sleigh ride, something that Wisconsinites call Booyah, a trivia competition, karaoke, and then in all likelihood more eating and drinking. There shall be Twittered updates from the frozen north so please follow my tweets or visit Twitter Search by entering #Weetacon in the search window.
I will know more today at registration. I didn’t even know that there would be a registration until I had polished off two Beefeater & Tonics and a Kobe beef mini-burger at Hinterland, which has an amazing menu, including delicious tapas. There have been moments where I feel like I have wandered into an alternate universe, one filled with Packers Fans, beer and cheese. In my research I have discovered that Booyah is either an enormous stew meant to feed thousands, or a Pigskin Jig used to win the Bassmaster Classic, possibly with the addition of a YUM Chunk. I guess I’ll know more Friday.
I’ve got my digital camera, a solid internet connection in my hotel room, and you. There will be prizes and I intend to win something. Wish me luck!
