Adventures in Green Bay cont.

I walked around downtown Green Bay this morning. It’s actually kind of cool. There are hip places to hang out, there is really good local brew in several spots within walking distance, there is a both a bar and a church every two blocks. There is fried cheese in every restaurant, diner, burger joint, and coffee shop. I have not heard one local person say, “doncha know” or “you betcha.”

What we did today at Weetacon 2009:

  • Arrived at St. Brendan’s pub to register and make a name flag for purposes of competitive flag making. I have left my USB cord for the digital camera at home and so pics will be loaded on Monday. But just between you and me – my flag is totally awesome and I think I should get extra points for use of Latin.
  • I just wanted you to know that in Wisconsin – the chili comes with spaghetti. Check it out:

  • Left St. Brendan’s for bowling. I got my first strike ever in my life thanks to the expert coaching of Kevin who plays on two different league teams. Best bowling advice ever – hold your bowling arm as if you were shaking hands with the pins, so that when you release the ball your arm is straight and your hand extended.
  • Sleigh ride pulled by two Percheron draft horses through the woods with cups of hot chocolate and a splash of Dr. McGillicuddy, followed by a brat and booyah feast complete with June’s famous Pineapple Fluff in a room with a wood burning fire. Then the charity raffle for fun and points because remember we are a generous, fun-loving, competitive group. Over a thousand dollars raised for Paul’s Pantry. People who go to Weetacon are freaking awesome!
  • Back to St. Brendan’s to drop off those of us who are ready for sleep (me) and others went on to a local spot for midnight karaoke. God bless the crazy creatures.
  • And now I must rest for we continue the madness that is Weetacon in the morning. Please, if you feel so inclined, visit the Paul’s Pantry website and if you do decide to contribute funds, consider mentioning Weetacon. They will know what that means. It is midnight in the land of Packers, beer and brats and so I bid you goodnight. Pleasant dreams.
