BlogHer Babes: The MILF factor – Mom’s I Like as Friends

My mommy-tastic roommate at BlogHer 2008, Kristie, is very beautiful, outgoing and a lot of fun. She even came with me to do a charity food giveaway the day before BlogHer began. We filled boxes with produce donated locally in the Bay Area and then drove to a housing development. As soon as people saw the truck they started to come out of their homes to receive a box of food. It was a wonderful experience and a great way to start the weekend. Kristie was a wonderful buddy for the conference. We hung out together, went to seminars separately, hung out again, giggled every night and told each other how great we looked getting ready each morning. She has four kids, two businesses, one husband and a lot of energy. She is awesome and I wuv her.

Thanks to Kristie I had the opportunity to spend time with several “mommy bloggers.” I don’t have kids, I don’t have many friends with kids, and I didn’t meet many women who blog about parenting at BlogHer07. It was a great experience to listen to their stories about their lives.

Perhaps you’ve heard the term, “mommy blogger?” Please visit this link on the Guy Kawasaki website for more information. You don’t know who Guy Kawasaki is? I’ll have more dirt, sleazy pictures useful information on him in a couple of days. He is a wild and crazy dude, and an internet gazillionaire business guru. Maybe you have to be one in order to be the other? I was a guest at a crazy party at his house and I have the pictures to prove it – actually the pictures are all over Flickr.

I knew that with Kristie as my roommate I would probably be spending some social time with mommy bloggers. While most of Kristie’s friends that I met at BlogHer 2008 are my age or a little younger, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t fit in, or that we would have nothing to talk about since I don’t have children. I was nervous that they would judge me or think that I was judging them, or any othe other endless commotion that goes in my brain. But none of that happened. Instead I was riveted by our emotional conversations about parenting, reclaiming their identities as individuals, their after-baby body image, and the revealing writing that they offer on their blogs. I also found out something very important. These mommies like to party when they get away from their kids…big time.

Back when we were all in our 20’s, these wonderful women were making babies, when I was a Dead Head. I was hitchhiking to the next show while they were changing diapers. I was stealing food from supermarkets, while they were helping with homework. I was making out in the back seat of the car, while they were rushing kids to the emergency room. They were being responsible for the lives of other human beings while I was a reckless carefree, irresponsible independent soul. Talking with them helped me understand my own mother better, helped me understand my childhood, and helped me have more compassion for humanity than any amount of therapy. And I must say that without the great food and drink at Guy’s party that I crashed was invited to by Kristie, I wouldn’t have gotten to know half of them so big thanks to Kristie and Guy Kawasaki.

The Bloggess made me giggle, cry and drink all at the same time. She might be dangerous. No – she absolutely is dangerous. I so love that in a woman! The Bloggess is a smokin’ hot Bond Girl with an ouzi strapped to her thigh bewilderingly trapped in a surrealist French comedy. I am really hoping that she quotes me and puts that on her blog.

I had a lot of fun talking with the completely party-tastic A Cowboy’s Wife. It was really fun bragging about our husband’s with Elizabeth of Table4Five. I was blown away by the courage and creativity of Love Babz. Mommy Needs Coffee and Mommy Needs a Cocktail are hitting different bottles but I can tell you that they are both hilarious good fun and I would hang out with them both again anytime Macy’s throws an invitation-only party in the lingerie department. And a special note to: Kristen, I want a copy of that pic. You know which pic I’m talking about!

Velveteen Mind threw an awesome BlogHer08 welcome party along with the incomparable Izzy, One Plus Two, motherbumper, The Bloggess, and Oh The Joys. Again I tell you – mommies like to party.

At The People’s Party I bumped into Kristen and Liz, the cool ladies from Cool Mom Picks. I heart Kristen and Liz and they have offered to give my adorable e-commerce site This Lush Life a shout-out on their site, and I really do want them to do that but, so many web developers, so little work actually accomplished. I have finally found someone who is redesigning the site and I should soon (really really soon) be ready for a big re-launch with press releases, and prizes galore. Woo hoo!

Jen is a freaking inspiration and I read her blog all the time.

During BlogHer07 I sat next to Bossy during a workshop. We were very naughty while we giggled and scribbled notes on a page in her notebook like we were teenagers. I had never heard of her blog but I knew she was hella funny. I got home and read every blog of every woman that I met and I realized that she is not only funny but she also is married to John Cusack. John’s a lucky fella. It was great seeing you again Bossy. Keep writing and I’ll keep reading!

WhyMommy is an amazing woman and I wish we could just meet for lunch once a month for the rest of my life. You have so much to share and I am better off for having access to you through your blog.

BlogHer Babes: Mo Pie, Weetabix, and Anne

I met the glorious Weetabix (she with the impish 1920’s flapper hairdo) at BlogHer 2007. No that isn’t her in the picture but I do think it captures her nearly-naked inner starlet. Clark Gable would have loved to ruin you! Taking you for midnight steak and martinis at the Stork Club, buying you furs and caviar in Miami, dancing until the sun came up in Havana.

I was probably a bit nervous, meeting Weetabix for the first time, stammering and refusing to make eye contact. Her writing makes me laugh at the world and at myself and the clever way she turns a phrase makes me green with envy. I hoped this year to be a bit more composed when we sat together at the BFD Blog meetup during BlogHer 2008. I took a deep breath, sucked down a second mimosa and we had a lovely conversation. Turns out she’s a doll.

I walked into the room where the meetup was just beginning, wearing the fabulous Igigi dress that I won (I promise pics very soon) and announced, “Alright, Mr DeMille, I’m ready for my close up.” The exquisite Mo Pie was there with a mimosa for me! A model’s dream come true! Now that I’ve got my champagne, all I need is to start smoking again, stop eating and I can be a super model.

Mo is a gracious and lovely hostess. As you can imagine, she had me with “Mimosa?” But please don’t think that my adoration for Mo Pie only runs as deep as the bottle. A couple of days later we enjoyed sushi boat sushi together and I can tell you truthfully that she is a dream date!

Anne breezed by a few times, her delightful smile made me love her at first sight. While I wish we had more time to talk I will tell you that she has rosy cheeks like ripe strawberries, and to make sure you get the inside scoop on Anne I can tell you right now – she wears impossibly high heels and very short skirts.

BlogHer08 Totally Rocks

San Francisco is beautiful and this event is awesome. I’m having a great time here. My roomie is Kristen who writes Slacker-Moms-R-Us (she’s no slacker my friends!) is a lot of fun and for the record – she does not snore.

I spent some time (too little!) with the beautiful and talented Jennette Fulda whose new book Half Assed has hit the book stores. In the lobby, I practically bumped into Weetabix of Elastic Waist and BFD Blog, heard stories about pugs from White Trash Mom (a few too many stories about pugs to tell you the truth), met the writers of Saving Grace, went on an elegant dinner cruise in the Golden Gate Bay, and most importantly — I met Grover from Sesame Street! And yes, I did indeed pose for a picture.

I will be posting pictures of the parties, and the blogging celebrities that I have met here in a couple of days. Later today, I party with the fantabulous Mo Pie (a totally groovy chick) at the BFD Blog Meet-Up. I also won the Igigi dress that they were giving away and it gorgeous! Now I get to be in a fashion photo shoot with Mo Pie. Squee! Film at eleven!
