Igigi Dress Review

This is a sponsored post. I was given two dresses by Igigi in return for my honest review. Read down to the end for information on winning a $50 Igigi gift certificate.

Last month I attended Weetacon, the annual conference for bloggers who like to do good and feel awesome. Basically, I go on vacation with about 50 of my closest blogger friends. We travel in winter to Wisconsin, a place colder than Alaska to bowl/laser-tag, drink butterscotch schnapps in hot apple cider (some prefer apple pie schnapps), go on a horse-drawn sleigh ride and raise money for charity. It’s a little weird and a whole lot of right.  Over the years, Igigia plus size fashion website, has offered a dress to women attending the conference who wear size 12 and larger. I am one of those women and this year we were all sent two dresses! Pretty awesome, right?

My favorite is the Leigh and don’t I look adorable? I love the fit. I love the plunging neckline. I should have worn sparkly earrings but I would wear this without a necklace because hello cleavage! For sizing information, I am 5′ 7″ and this dress is a 14/16.  It’s a fancy little black dress and I am thrilled to have it in my closet. I would wear this to an evening concert and dinner, a cocktail party, pretty much anytime I feel like being the best dressed woman in the room. At $180 I feel like it is well worth the price and it is my precious.

Pics of me in this dress were taken by the inimitable Wendy McClure, my friend the famous author. You should buy her young adult novel Wanderville, or her road trip book The Wilder Life, about her love of Little House on the Prairie. On the last day of Weetacon, when my flight home to New York from Chicago was cancelled because of a snow storm, Wendy and her husband Chris took me in and gave me shelter. They are fantastic hosts and oh my god their apartment is gorgeous.

Being silly in Wendy McClure's kitchen.

I wish I liked the Garnet dress in Beryl Chartreuse because it is beautiful and very well made. I love the pattern, the stitching is beautifully done, it’s made of heavyweight material and I love the draping. Sadly, for me, this was not a fashion success story. I did receive compliments while wearing the dress but it fit awkwardly. Even though the size is the same as the Leigh, the Garnet felt huge. You can’t really tell in this picture, but it was really baggy in the back and just did not fit me well. I think if you are a solid 16 then you might be comfortable with the sizing, but it’s so big on me that I have decided to give it to a very dear friend of mine who I know is going to love it. No contest for this dress because sometimes you just have to give a friend a present. Awesome pic taken by Wendy Wimmer Schuchart.

  1. You are rockin’ that Leigh dress! I’d love either the Thalia gown in Rose Garden (featured in the new Look Book) or the Jayden Maxi dress for my reunion this summer!

  2. Oh, I didn’t see you in the Leigh dress–very fancy and flattering on you!

I am coveting the Luella Tunic in Emerald to wear to work (with black pants).

  3. I had no idea the Garnet dress was big on you – it looked great! And I liked it when you wore it with your cute denim jacket. I’ll have to remember to wear my denim jacket with one of my dresses for a more casual look. Contest! I have been dreaming about the Deora since I saw it. It’ll be perfect for work or any kind of dressy event I may have.

  4. I think the both look great. But, I understand about how sometimes the dress just isn’t for you. For my dress I would love either the Hayleigh dress or the Wren wrap dress for a fundraiser I have to attend.

  5. That lace dress looks fantastic. The green has a beautiful print and the photo looks terrific, but I know when a dress isn’t quite right, it’s better to let it go!

I need the Deora dress! I love the pattern and would wear it for date night, with a pair of red strappy sandals. Right?

  6. Too bad the Garnet didn’t work out for you but wow super nice to find a friend who’d love it instead of just letting it sit in your closet.

Personally, I’m looking to expand my workwear collection, I would love to own the Monroe Skirt in Navy, and the Belmont Skirt in Ebony Damask. A Mena Jacket in Navy would also be a great addition for my closet!

  7. It’s a bummer the Garnet didn’t fit well because those colors look great on you! But that Leigh dress – va va voom, girl!

I’d like the Domani top coat, I need a spring/fall jacket that fits properly. And I want the Greenwich top in every color they have because it’s a great “throw on and look great with no effort” piece.

  8. “my precious”. Too cute. The dresses are gorgeous but “precious” is definitely my fave. I am a huge fan of Igigi and have always been impressed with the quality. Unfortunately the quality comes with a high price tag that most of us can’t afford. They are definitely worthy investment pieces.

  9. I love the vibrant colors of Leigh. I have my eyes on the maddalena maxi dress

  10. It’s so nice of you to pass the dress on to a friend! I’ve found that a tailor will also work wonders for a dress that doesn’t fit quite right.

I’m hoping to wear the Chelsea Dress in Fuego to my wedding reception!

  11. I like the Fayette dress or the Nencia Cocktail Dress.

  12. I love the colors of Garnet dress, especially on you, but I totally get it about things fitting right. Speaking of, I should really go do a clean out of my closet.

So that I can add either a pair of Monroe or Elizabeth pants!

  13. I love the Hayleigh dress in Midnight Blue – I’ve been coveting it for a while!

  14. You look great!! I really love the Cadence Dress in Black/Ivory (http://www.igigi.com/plus-size-dresses/cadence-dress-in-black-ivory.html). I would wear it to my college graduation in May (ahhhhhh, I don’t want to grow up).

  15. Love the second dress that you are wearing. It fits you very well and the colors are great!!

  16. The Leigh dress is fabulous! I personally love the Fayette dress in Merlot. So pretty for a nice dinner out.

  17. I love both dresses on you. I especially love the domesticated photo shoot. So much fun! I have had my eye on the feugo Igigi dress and I am pretty sure that I would wear it everywhere if I could get my hands on it.

  18. You look totally adorable! I’m lusting after the Janus dress in pink pindot. Mostly because I like saying and typing “pink pindot”, but also because it would look great at work and give me an excuse to buy pink shoes.

  19. You can’t tell the Beryl one doesn’t fit well from the picture! Both look gorgeous although I love the sparkly Leigh, in fact, I’d love to get one!

  20. The garnet does look beautiful – too bad it didn’t fit like you would have liked. But you are right – the Leigh is just fantastic!

It is hard to narrow down my favorite to one. I love the nico skirt in midnight sahara (with matching top) and the jadyn maxi dress (I LOVE blue and purple!) My niece is turning 1 in a couple weeks, so a brand-new pretty dress would be terrific to wear to her birthday party. (I’m also eying the deora dress, perhaps for a nice night on the town?)

  21. You are WEARING that Leigh dress! Stunning! I’m all for the Tiffany dresses in the multitude of colors…I don’t know if I’d be able to choose just one! :)

  22. I love both dresses. I’m sorry that the Beryl dress didn’t work out because it looks like a great dress when it fits. I really like it of the two, but I understand that fit matters (and I agree!).

  23. The Cassidy dress in Kusama dress would be perfect for a staff party I have in June. It’s young and polka dots are so in.

  24. Love the Leigh on you! I love the marisol dress in pomegranate. I have a very fancy wedding that I’m attending this summer and it would be perfect.

  25. I’d choose the Isis dress for work; my work wardrobe needs refreshing.

  26. That’s a bummer that the Beryl didn’t fit right because it looked FANTASTIC on you. but the Leigh…TOTES ADORBS! I am craving the Christina Maxi in Mint Floral for our Thanksgiving Costa Rica get away. So much pretty floral happiness.

  27. You’re a great friend for sharing that dress, it is beautiful.

I really want the Linea Plus Size Maxi Dress in Vermillion. That color is gorgeous.

  28. You look awesome in both but I love your kitchen stylings with the Leigh – so sassy! All these reviews are making me want to try a wrap dress, and right now I am totally into the Neve in blue floral!
