Smooth Away: Does it really work?
OK ladies let’s have a conversation about body hair. I know you shave your legs. Your boyfriend/husband knows you shave your legs. And if you have a girlfriend she definitely knows. So let’s just be out in the open about it, ok?
I know that some of my female readers do not remove their body hair and that’s ok too. My sisters there is room for all of us and I am a woman who removes body hair from my legs, pits and yes I will admit it here for all the world to see – I remove hair from my upper lip. Hey, I’m half Greek and half Romanian Gypsy/Jew – the women in my tribe have moustaches. I have a moustache that Mousalini would covet. OK not really, but there is fuzz people, yes, there is fuzz.
I don’t know what your method of hair removal is, but generally I shave. I don’t like the smell of depilatory creams, and once I left that stuff on my legs for too long and I got a chemical burn. Perhaps I should say that I used to shave, because recently I received a package of Smooth Away for my review and truthfully my sisters — it really works.
I was hesitant to believe that a little pad could just magically remove hair but it did! It comes with all the stuff you see in the picture. There is a plastic pad with a band that fits over the back of your hand, then there is the hair removal pad (peel off the backing and stick it on the hand pad), then rub gently in a circular motion and voila! hair be gone.
VERY IMPORTANT FACT ABOUT THIS PRODUCT: I found that my skin was very dry after use. I think it must remove layers of skin along with the hair so be sure to use the moisturizer that comes in the box. Supposedly, it will also inhibit hair growth, so the hair you have will grow back slower.
I do still enjoy shaving my legs so I don’t know if I’ll give that up completely, but yeah this product really worked!

Wow, my experience was VERY different from yours. Yes, hair appeared minimized, but my legs did not pass the feel test — that is, when I ran my hand down my leg, I was definitely feeling bristles, even though I couldn’t see them. Also, it tore up my upper lip when I used it on my own gypsy-’stache. Again, no visible damage, but pain, especially when I smiled. I was so disappointed, I considered writing to the company for my money back. But I’m glad this worked better for you!
I picked this up at Walgreens, even though I doubted that it would really work as well as it claimed. I was really surprised! I have no idea how it works, but it does. I found that I was kind of stubbly again by the next day and I prefer the smoother feel I get from shaving, but this is a great alternative when you don’t have the time to shave.
Hey Danielle that is awful if your lip was torn! As I said, I did have some dryness, but nothing as bad as you experienced and my skin felt very smooth after using the moisturizer.
Rachel, I agree that my legs weren’t really as smooth as shaving which is why I know that will be my main choice but, the Smooth Away pad is a good choice for a quick touch up.
It’s so crazy that you posted this because I was at Walgreen’s a couple of hours ago looking at the box and wondering if it really works haha. I might buy it next week.
None of this is new, it has been around for over 100 years. Basically you are using sandpaper to remove the hair, though that sounds worse than it is. It works relatively well and there are many brands you can buy inexpensively. Like most products on TV nowadays it is simply an existing product that is being marketed as a brand new invention, like ShamWOW or anything Billy Mays sells.

Seriously Tara I had never heard of anything like it before. Thanks for the link – there’s some interesting information there!
Eeek!! I am currently nursing a rash oh my legs from that product… I do not have sensitive skin AT ALL, but this product hurt. I didn’t even rub that hard! My poor legs are currently underneath a layer of polysporin and I am hoping the red bumps go away shortly… The hair is gone, at least! haha.
@Heather it must be the sandpaper (see tara’s comment). sigh…the things we do to remove hair.
Girl! I bought this for myself around the new year! I am completely in love with it! My lil sis thought i shaved. So i used this product on her fiance- they both ran out and got this!
I am with you though, I may not completely give up shaving… but hey- I love it- it works- no probs!
I’ve tried these before – it essentially sand papering your legs! And yup, it works, and any growth is soft, not stubbly. What I will say though it that the “dust” can be a bit gross!
Thanks for the review! I might try it for my legs, but my face is way too sensitive to try the upper lip. I’m still waiting for the cost of lasering to go down so I can get my legs done. I’ve done some other areas and love it!
Here’s a really funny review I found on the Smooth Away. Very similar to my experience, lol! http://rockstarmamaonline.com/theblog/?p=75
I bought this at Walgreens after seeing the commercial that said it works great for guys, too. My chest has never been smoother! There’s still the problem of red bumps, but I suppose it’s worth it. It took a while for the hair to start disappearing, though…
Now if only this was safe for male beards and easy to use on the back…those are the areas that need it the most!
